TECHNOLOGY INSPIRED SPRING/SUMMER LAUNCH

Creative Techniques and New Fiber Explored by Hartmann&Forbes

Hartmann&Forbes,® award-winning maker of handcrafted, natural windowcoverings, wallcoverings and textiles, is pleased to present their New Arrivals for 2017 Spring and Summer which includes an exquisite Masters of Linen™ textile and three exciting wallcovering series.

“As technology advances, new art forms are created,” said Hartmann&Forbes Founder Michael Jones. “For Spring, we were curious about digital opportunities and how they might impact our artisanal approach. Our curiosity challenged us to use new technologies for our Spring collections.”

Capturing the hypnotic movement of flax at harvest, Fields is a relaxed fabric crafted in Belgium from pure European linen. Available in five gentle earth-toned colorways, the textile masterfully blends two distinct patterns with vertical warp fibers contributing a nuanced visual texture. Masters of Linen™ certified and available in double widths of 118,” this beautiful design coordinates with collections pastand present..

Suitable for both residential and contract use, natural fibers are reimagined in three distinct new wallcovering series: Uptown – conveys the energy of urban construction; an abstract grid design, rotary printed then a thin layer of linen is delicately hand-applied to soften the effect. Monterey – flows with tidal beauty in a design of shifting sand and sea-smoothed pebbles; the application of digital printing on traditional grasscloth makes it a contemporary take on a classic wallcovering. Harbor – inspired by sailboat-dotted inlets; showcases the hearty bac bac fiber which is handstripped, handwoven, backed with colored paper, then pigment washed for a dimensional wallcovering.

HARTMANN&FORBES LAUNCHES NEW DESIGNS – RAINFALL AND CATHEDRAL

Hartmann&Forbes,® custom maker of handcrafted windowcoverings, wallcoverings and textiles of sustainable natural materials, announces the release of the Rainfall series, including four natural woven-to-size windowcoverings and the Cathedral series, offering six handcrafted natural wallcoverings.

Shimmering raindrops are the inspiration for the Rainfall series. To create a pleasant variance, softly reflective metallic and colored threads dance with white ramie weft fibers in harmonious, handwoven choreography. These custom woven-to-size shade and drapery styles are available in seamless widths up to 180," perfect for covering large modern window expanses.

Resembling the glossy bark of rain-soaked Aspens in the Cathedral region of the Colorado mountains, this innovative design is created with hand-sliced cork skillfully placed on metallic-backed paper, then printed with a design inspired by winter woodlands. The meticulous hand process results in a lasting artisanal impression. These natural wallcoverings are available in 8 yard rolls, 36" wide, and harmonize perfectly with the new Rainfall series.

The reflective characteristics of the designs acknowledge the winter season, embracing the natural beauty offered during this contemplative season,” said Hartmann&Forbes’ in-house Designer and Director of Product Development, Rebecca Welch. Further, she states that “These new products are exquisitely matched to enhance one another, and bring an austere simplicity to any interior, all year long.

New 2016 Debuts Enhance The Signature Collection

Hartmann&Forbes,® maker of handcrafted natural windowcoverings, wallcoverings and textiles, recently released 54 new products for 2016 to complement their extensive collections of natural products. After months of design experimentation and discovery, newly launched products include 19 additions to their hallmark collection of woven-to-size windowcoverings.

Customized up to a width of 180”, Hartmann&Forbes’ grassweaves are produced from sustainable, blended fibers and precisely crafted to create heirloom-quality, handwoven artisanal shades. Along with the new series, stunning new colorways have been added to enhance the designs of existing windowcoverings.

Featuring the company’s renowned “loom-finished” edge is a new series called Crosshatch, a chic interpretation of chambray fabric woven with palm fibers and Italian-inspired spun yarn. Also recently added to the Glisten series is an exciting new design called Aura. Its delicate accent of silvery filaments infuses this weave with metallic that sparkles under incandescent lighting.

“Enhancing our collection of Grassweave windowcoverings for 2016 has been challenging, but very satisfying,” said Hartmann&Forbes Founder Michael Jones. “Our hope is that, by maintaining our unique point of view and building a body of work that is truly artistic, our products will provide enduring interior spaces that create sanctuary through natural design.”

The Finest, Sustainable European Linen Now Available

Hartmann&Forbes,® maker of handcrafted natural windowcoverings, wallcoverings and textiles, recently released 54 new products for 2016 to complement their extensive collections of natural products. Among them, are natural fabrics displaying a contemporary mix of patterns, textures and tones.

Of the 11 new natural fabrics being added to their collection, eight have earned the prestigious Masters of Linen certification—a guarantee of linen 100% Made in Europe; a registered trademark and seal of excellence for both the trade and the consumer.

WHERE DO YOUR PRODUCTS COME FROM?

We weave natural fibers all over the world, in close proximity to where a fiber is grown, and in cultures where these age-old crafts are studied and respected. All our shades are then hand-finished in the Pacific Northwest to your custom requirements. Edges are meticulously finished, liner is carefully stitched and all products are thoroughly inspected before being delivered to your project. Fashioned by craftsmen, not machines, our windowcoverings and wallcoverings give your room designs warmth, elegance, refinement and a rich story of history and tradition.

WHAT KIND OF WINDOWCOVERINGS DO YOU MAKE?

A large variety of Roman Shades, Rollershades, Draperies, Panelscreens, Top Treatments and specialty shapes. Begin by signing up for a no-charge trade account to receive access to our extensive online collection in our Product Portfolio. Our artisans and tailors bring decades of experience to our custom capabilities. They are available to handcraft everything from custom cornices to bedding and pillows. Learn more about this option by contacting Customer Relations at 888.582.8780 or via email at hfcr@hartmannforbes.com.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY “NATURAL” WINDOWCOVERINGS?

HANDCRAFTED NATURAL FIBERS: We are devoted to hand-craftsmanship using ancient techniques of preparation and weaving proven over generations. Fibers are soaked, split, stripped, sun dried, and spun – by hand – before our loom masters blend them together using a complex rhythm of warps and wefts. We perform this work by hand in order to ensure genuine quality and because doing so provides us the freedom to push the boundaries of design and materials. Learn more about Natural Fibers.

EDGE DETAILING

Woven-to-Size: Preserving the heritage and artistry of ancient handweaving, each design is custom woven-to-size, exclusively on traditional handlooms, up to 180 inches wide without seams. It is an arduous and meticulous weaving technique that takes time, but for those who can accommodate a longer lead time, it offers a uniquely refined appearance.

Tailored-to-Size: Each design is precisely woven by hand into large rolls and shipped in bulk to our Pacific Northwest Finishing Facility. Local artisans then meticulously hand finish the edges and hand tailor shades to designer specifications. This process dramatically reduces lead time and the carbon footprint of its transport.

HAND FINISHED: Every windowcovering is finished by hand in our Pacific Northwest Finishing Facility to meet a designer’s specification. We hand tie rings, hand stitch liners and hand fold pleats. Fashioned using premium components, our windowcoverings bring warmth, elegance and refinement to your design.

HOW DO I LEARN MORE ABOUT AUTOMATION?

To simplify the process of ordering and automating windowcoverings, our Automation Project Managers (APM) will work as your partner in the Automation process. They will help you design, specify and manage a solution for your projects. You can reach them at 888.582.6760 or email them at jeff@hartmannforbes.com. You can also visit our Automation page to get started at hartmannforbes.com/automation.

WHAT IF IT’S TOO LATE IN A PROJECT TO HARDWIRE FOR AUTOMATED WINDOWCOVERINGS?

It’s never too late to hardwire. Integrators are adept at getting wire where it’s needed. Low voltage cable is small, easily hidden and may not require a permit to run. Additionally, hardwired motors can be specified with cords that can be hidden behind drapery panels and plugged into standard outlets. And if power cannot be made available, our battery operated Motor-Clutch is an ideal solution.

WHAT IS THE COST OF AUTOMATION?

The cost will vary depending on the size and complexity of your project. Please contact an APM for a quote.

WHO PROGRAMS THE CONTROLS?

Our automation specialists set and test shade limits and program remotes and keypads before they leave the finishing facility. If the windowcoverings are being integrated into a home automation or lighting control system, our specialists set and test limits and any integration is done by either the installer or integrator. Using the Automation Worksheet, we can help you identify who should program the shades.

DOES IT TAKE LONGER TO DELIVER AUTOMATED WINDOWCOVERINGS?

Yes. Lead times may extend depending on size and complexity of project and availability of parts. Contact our Customer Relations department for an estimated lead time.

WHAT IF I MAKE A MISTAKE?

We encourage you to work with a Hartmann&Forbes APM from the start of a project to ensure your project runs smoothly in specifying automation. If a mistake is made, contact our Customer Relations department and we’ll help you work through it.

I WANT TO INTEGRATE INTO A HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START. CAN YOU HELP?

Absolutely. That’s what our APM’s are here for. Simply contact an APM and complete an Automation Worksheet.

CAN ANYONE INSTALL AUTOMATED WINDOWCOVERINGS?

Most professional installers can install our Motor-Clutch system while hardwired systems may require an electrician or integrator as well. In some cases, installation requires a certified technician. Your APM can help you plan for installation.

Design Consideration: Refined Weaves with Edge Binding

When specifying a refined Tailored-to-Size weave with an edge binding upgrade, we recommend using the soft and pliable Bamboo edge binding rather than using the more rigid Chiffon or Twill edge binding options. This choice will offer a smaller and more relaxed folding stack, making operating the shade easier. Made from the pulp of bamboo grass, the texture of our bamboo edge binding blends perfectly with most weave designs. Available in a variety of colors, 5/8," 1," and 2."
